I designed a casting mold for an aluminum winch hawse. I calculated the correct draft angle for our custom aluminum grade and performed a draft analysis. To improve casting yield, I used the casted part's hole as the pouring sprue. Some of the main design details are mentioned below.
I received the 3D scan mesh file as input. With the help of the scan data, I created a precise 3D model in Autodesk Inventor.
While creating the 3D model, I initially used surface modeling techniques and then converted the surface model into a solid 3D model for ease of use.
For proper mold alignment, I incorporated tab and slot type guides into the mold and included side cuts on both sides to facilitate the opening process.
These design elements help ensure precise alignment during the molding process and simplify the demolding of the casted part.
